Title: Urchins
There are three significant messages overlayed in this painting.
Can you see the urchins? Just like humans, sea urchins can only survive in community and close to the light. We are made for relationship connected to community. Can you see the stingray? Hidden within the sea urchins is the artist’s family totem, the stingray. This image of the stingray is to honour the present elders of Indigenous communities. Can you see the constellations? These sea urchins double as stars in the universe. This is a reminder of the rich heritage and lineage that has come before us in our ancestors.
